Our proposals

A new garden square

At the heart of the proposal is a new ‘Garden Square’. This is a much greener space than originally consented which, through soft landscaping, intends to complement Gauging Square. Mounded areas of grass, paved areas, and water features contribute to a high quality open space and integrated play space.

The proposals provide the opportunity for the Council to extend London Dock’s north-south and east-west connections through to the Ornamental Canal.

Greenery and biodiversity

The landscape aims to provide a series of biodiverse green spaces that interlink with one another and the wider Green Grid that runs throughout Tower Hamlets.

The proposal will look to support the enhancement of biodiversity via a range of planting, such as native groundcover, hedgerow planting, ornamental groundcover, mown amenity and natural wetland aquatic planting.

The tree and planting strategy aims to provide seasonal visual amenity during the whole year with attractive ornamental qualities. A range of species are proposed to provide a robust layer of greenery and offer ecological niches and refuge to local fauna.

Roof top gardens and green roofs are proposed across the buildings to aid water attenuation and promote the ecological value of roofs.

A new play mews

A play mews is proposed along the east of Building J, up to the boundary with Tobacco Dock. The street will be activated with front doors to maisonettes, front gardens, verdant planting and a range of play equipment for all ages. The aim is to create a safe and exciting play space for residents and visitors.

A space for everyone to enjoy

The proposed landscape design offers a range of spaces from play areas for all ages, to relaxing seating areas, to meandering routes with level access.
